Prologue

If you’ve found this book, your journey has taken a hard right into the dark ages. You wake up every day to find the foundation of your life being dismantled, brick by brick. The truth has no meaning, the absurd is normalized, power belongs to the few, and the law is used to terrify, intimidate, and silence the voices of reason. The gaslight burns bright in your world, and you’ll need its glow to illuminate your path.

You were not meant to be prepared for this. They want you disoriented, too exhausted to resist, too demoralized to fight. They want you numb, worn down, frozen in place while they remake the world in their image. That’s how they win—by keeping you confused, afraid, and waiting for someone else to save you.

Don’t give them what they want. Don’t make it easy.

We have been here before. We have survived emperors, inquisitions, witch hunts, purges, forced obedience, and forced silence. They have erased our names from history, burned our books, and rewritten our stories to serve their own ends. And yet, here we are. Still standing. Still resisting. Still writing.

Heretica is not a history book, though history has much to teach us. It is not a self-help book, though it may help you find yourself. It is a map, a field guide, a strategy manual for the world you now live in. It will not coddle you. It will not tell you that everything will be okay. But it will show you how to endure, how to fight, and—if you’re clever, stubborn, and a little lucky—how to win.

The path ahead will not be easy. But you’re not alone. This Codex is your companion, a book of hours for the heretics, the exiles, the ones who refuse to kneel.

Welcome to the rebellion.
